RESCHEDULING PANAFEST 2023 and Other Cancellations DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS!
The Pan African Festival (Panafest), originally planned for Saturday, September 23, 2023, has regrettably been canceled due to the anticipated arrival of Tropical Storm Ophelia, which is expected to bring significant rainfall and strong winds to the Maryland area. Following thorough consultations with local authorities, county officials, as well as internal and external collaborators, the event organizers have unanimously concluded that this is the most prudent course of action. We will promptly announce a rescheduled date for the festival once it has been determined.
According to WMAR in Baltimore, the following events scheduled for this weekend have been called off or rescheduled due to Tropical Storm Ophelia:
ARTSCAPE:
Unfortunately, all planned festivities for Saturday have been canceled because of the expected impacts of Tropical Storm Ophelia. While ARTSCAPE is typically a rain or shine event, the storm is forecasted to bring heavy rain and strong winds, which could pose a safety risk to attendees. However, the festival is still set to kick off on Friday at 5 pm as initially planned. As for Sunday, the event remains scheduled, but we recommend checking back here for the latest updates.
THE BIG DILL WORLD'S LARGEST PICKLE PARTY:
In light of Tropical Storm Ophelia, The World's Largest Pickle Party has been rescheduled to take place on November 11th and 12th at Power Plant Live, the designated rain date. Rest assured, all previously purchased tickets will automatically transfer to the new date. The event organizers assure you that they won't leave you "in a pickle." FESTIVAL FOR THE ANIMALS:
Regrettably, the Festival for the Animals has been canceled due to severe weather conditions. If you hold tickets for this event, you can expect to receive an email with further details. It's important to note that this event serves as the largest fundraiser for the animal shelter, and this year it was scheduled to be held at Padonia Park Club in Cockeysville. TRIFECTA FESTIVAL:
Due to the impending severe weather, the Trifecta Food Truck and Music Festival has been rescheduled to September 21, 2024. All tickets for the new date will be honored. If you require a refund, you can reach out to Etix via email by clicking here.
Other cancellations:
DC News Now Reports — Celebrate Petworth 2023 was canceled due to inclement weather.
The festival was supposed to be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, but due to the forecasted high winds and heavy rain from Tropical Storm Ophelia, festival organizers decided to cancel it.
“We know many people were very much looking forward to this annual event (as were we!) and we’re devastated to have to cancel it,” Celebrate Petworth said in an announcement posted online.
Organizers are looking into the possibility of rescheduling the event to later this year and will share any updates as soon as a decision has been made, according to the festival site.
Visit Celebrate Petworth’s website for information and updates.
Virginia Pridefest, which was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23 on Brown’s Island in Richmond, was postponed due to inclement weather.
“Our decision comes after thoughtful consideration and consultation with meteorologists, event planning experts, and our valued stakeholders,” Virginia Pride said in an announcement posted online.
The National Hurricane Center announced a possible tropical cyclone on Thursday, issuing a tropical storm warning and storm surge watch for parts of the East Coast — including Virginia.
“Weather forecasts currently available to us predict consistent, and at times heavy, rainfall, coupled with the potential for dangerous wind gusts of up to 40 mph. Such conditions would be both uncomfortable and dangerous for our attendees, vendors, entertainers, and dedicated volunteers,” the statement from Virginia Pride continued.
Virginia Pride said that it was actively looking for other alternatives to reschedule Pridefest and will possibly have updates in the coming days.
Cancellation reported by WUSA-
Maryland Renaissance Festival
Festival officials have decided to close the event as the region continues to feel the effects of Ophelia on Sept. 23. Those who have purchased tickets for this weekend will be refunded in full automatically.
The Festival is still scheduled to open at 10 a.m. Sunday. No refunds will be issued for this day unless the event decides to close. While the festival is still going to open, ticket sales have been suspended for the day in order to preserve the site grounds and parking.
