Several days of rain are heading for the DMV, especially Baltimore. Here is what you need to know.
The National Weather Service is tracking a slow-moving system that will park itself over the region starting late Thursday and lasting through the weekend. Baltimore is in the bullseye. Several days of rain. Not a washout every hour, but persistent enough to ruin outdoor plans if you pretend it is not coming.
So do not pretend.
If you planned an outdoor festival, check if it has a rain date or indoor component.
If you planned a picnic or cookout, move it indoors or reschedule.
If you planned the beach, wait for the next sunny weekend. It will come.
If you planned nothing, now you have an excuse to try something indoors.
Your calendar is full of events that do not care about the weather.
Wednesday (Tonight)
Kanysha album release at the Mansion at Strathmore in North Bethesda. Indoors. Dry. Celebratory.
Thursday
Cécile McLorin Salvant at Strathmore. Three Grammys. A voice that fills the room. The rain will not touch you.
Friday
Montgomery County Black Business Expo in Rockville. Indoors. Free.
Juneteenth Food Truck Frenzy in Bowie. Food trucks operate in the rain. Bring an umbrella.
USA vs. Paraguay World Cup watch party in Landover. Indoors. Giant screens. No weather risk.
Saturday
Petals & Pilates at Union Station in DC. Indoor flowers and movement.
In-Person Tour of Takoma Village Cohousing in DC. Indoor conversation.
Meet the Author: Steve Majors in Takoma Park. Indoor. Dry.
The rain is not stopping any of these. You just need to show up.
Baltimore is expected to get the heaviest rain. If you had outdoor plans there, check with the organizers. Many events have rain plans or indoor backup locations. Do not assume cancellation. Assume adaptation.
The rain is coming. Your weekend does not have to be cancelled. You just need to adjust.
Check the forecast before you leave. Bring an umbrella. Wear shoes that can get wet. And go anyway.
