A Twist On Valentine's Day: Story District's Annual 'Worst Date Ever' Event at the Historic Howard Theatre.
Story District, an organization dedicated to the art of true, first-person storytelling, is set to host an unforgettable event that promises laughter, empathy, and a unique blend of entertainment. In a recent interview with The Washington City Paper, Amy Saidman, the Director of Story District, highlighted the organization's commitment to refinement in storytelling. Unlike other storytelling platforms, Story District places emphasis on structure, rehearsal, and the art of crafting expressive, funny, heartbreaking, or memorable tales within a seven to eight-minute timeframe.
According to Story District's mission, they aim to teach and showcase the art of true storytelling, inspiring, connecting, and building a diverse community of voices in the Washington, DC region and beyond.
One of Story District's signature events is the "Worst Date Ever: A Valentine’s Day Contest," which has become an annual tradition, having taken place successfully for six consecutive years. This year's edition is scheduled for February 14th at the historic Howard Theatre on T Street Northwest, Washington DC.
The Worst Date Ever event is a unique and entertaining showcase where local daters return to the Howard Theatre to share true stories about their wildest and worst dating experiences. The audience plays an interactive role by voting on whose date was the absolute worst. The highlight of the evening is the presentation of the prestigious Golden Plunger to the storyteller with the "worst" story.
The event will be hosted and directed by the charismatic Scott C. Hollingsworth, also known as DJ Sugarpants. Hollingsworth expresses gratitude for Story District's ability to turn dating disasters into a fun and shared experience.
The doors for the Worst Date Ever event open at 6:00 pm, offering attendees an opportunity to immerse themselves in an evening of laughter and shared narratives. Tickets for this unique and engaging event can be purchased on the official Ticketweb page: Event Tickets.
As Story District continues to thrive in its mission to create a space for diverse voices and authentic storytelling, the Worst Date Ever event stands as a testament to the organization's ability to turn personal experiences into a communal celebration of laughter, connection, and the shared human experience.
