The DMV culture scene does not pause for your Netflix queue. This week, the calendar is doing the work: an open mic with a real drum kit in Truxton Circle, throwback music bingo in Silver Spring, experimental soundscapes and protest films in Takoma Park, and a harvest dinner on an urban farm. The weather is cooperating—mostly sunny, highs in the mid-to-upper 60s, lows dipping into the 40s—so there's no excuse to stay in.
Here's the blueprint.
The Pocket Open Mic
7:30 PM (doors 7:00 PM) | The Pocket, 1508 N. Capitol St. NW, Washington, DC
The Pocket is a 75-capacity room inside 7DrumCity, with a full lighting rig, a cocktail bar, and—crucially—an actual drum kit and stage. That means performers can't hide behind a minimal acoustic set. You get the whole picture: local music, comedy, spoken word, all with nowhere to go but all-in.
Logistics: Free. All ages. Sign-up happens on the night. The Pocket is a short walk from NoMa-Gallaudet U Metro (Red Line), but parking is tricky—Metro or rideshare is the move.
Weather: Mostly sunny, high near 68°F, low around 49°F. Light jacket for the walk back.
Music Bingo Party
6:00 PM | Commas Food Hall, 8661 Colesville Rd., Level 3, Silver Spring, MD
This isn't your grandmother's bingo. It's throwback anthems—90s boy bands, early-2000s hip-hop—and you have to match the song to your card before the next one drops. Wine specials are running to help you cope with a missed B-12.
Logistics: Free to play. Commas is on Level 3 of Ellsworth Place. Park at Town Square Garage 61 (786 Ellsworth Dr., $1.25/hour) or take the Red Line to Silver Spring and walk about 12 minutes. The D40 bus drops nearby too.
Weather: Sunny, high near 66°F, low around 48°F. Good food-hall weather.
João Castro Pinto / Guillermo Pizarro / Zottoh
7:00 PM | Rhizome DC, 6950 Maple St. NW, Washington, DC
Three experimental artists—Portuguese soundscape composer João Castro Pinto, harsh-noise field recordist Guillermo Pizarro, and Argentine drone guitarist Zottoh—in a room built for disciplined listening. This is not background-music night. Leave the banter at the door.
Logistics: $15. Rhizome is a five-minute walk from Takoma Metro (Red Line), with a small gravel lot and street parking. Read the signs before you leave the car.
Weather: Sunny, high near 65°F, low around 47°F. Layer up for the walk.
"Stories of Protest and Struggle" Film Screening
7:30 PM | Takoma Park Community Center Auditorium, 7500 Maple Ave., Takoma Park, MD
Three short documentaries about protest, struggle, and survival, followed by a community discussion. This is not a popcorn night. It's a room full of people who came to think.
Logistics: Free. No tickets or reservations required. Free on-site parking. Takoma Metro is about a 20-minute walk or take Ride-On Bus 25 or 12.
Weather: Scattered clouds, high near 67°F, low around 49°F. Fine night for a post-film walk.
Harvest Dinner and Dance at Koiner Farm
6:00 PM | Koiner Urban Farm, 737 Easley St., Silver Spring, MD
A farm-to-table dinner, local beer and wine tastings, and dancing under twinkling lights—in the middle of downtown Silver Spring. This is the fifth annual fundraiser for the Charles Koiner Conservancy for Urban Farming, and it sells out most years.
Logistics: General admission around $162. Limited tickets. Park in County Lot 29 (between Bonifant and Easley)—do not park in the neighborhood. The farm is less than a mile from Silver Spring Metro (Red Line).
Weather: Sunny, high near 67°F, low around 46°F. Stilettos will betray you on farm terrain. Flats or boots and bring a layer for after sunset.
