Poetry, wellness, small business, and public health collide in a weeklong festival designed to give poets what they've never truly had before: a homecoming of their own.
Starting Monday, July 20, Poet Life Fest | The Poet's Homecoming takes over Washington, D.C., for a full week of culture, community, and creative entrepreneurship. Founded by poet and 2x HBCU graduate Christoph Jenkins, the festival is modeled after the pride, connection, and legacy of HBCU homecomings—but built specifically for poets, storytellers, and the communities they serve.
The week kicks off Monday with a Go-Go Workout and community activation at Ivy City Smokehouse. Tuesday brings Live Karaoke at National Harbor. Wednesday features a Creative Career Mastermind exploring creative entrepreneurship. Thursday offers "Stories That Heal," a public health open mic. Friday closes with the "All White Experience" at The Strand DC—dress to impress.
The main event lands Saturday, July 25, at Gateway DC Pavilion (2700 Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE) from 12 PM to 7 PM. Expect live performances, wellness activations, a fashion showcase, food vendors, and community resources. A major focus this year is the connection between poetry and public health, with cause-centered showcases on mental health, cancer awareness, and community healing.
Sunday wraps things up with a farewell brunch at The Strand DC.
The festival also includes a community service partnership with Miriam's Kitchen, inviting attendees to volunteer and donate heat-related supplies for individuals experiencing homelessness.
